Zoe Coble: Ready for Take Off

Zoe Coble has spent most of her life traveling, whether it be to New York City, Washington D.C, or a small town in southern California.
Having visited over twenty-one of all fifty states, Coble grew up traveling. While her favorite experiences of traveling are the road trips, her most memorable one was her first time on an airplane.
On her way to visit family in California, her plane had a layover in Denver, Colorado. Not prepared for this layover, Coble began to panic.
A flight attendant from the plane she had just unboarded came over to her and helped her calm down. Once she did, the attendant gave Coble her first pair of wings, a mock copy of what most flight attendants have pinned to their uniforms.
While she didn’t think much about it at the time, she now believes this interaction is what fueled her to decide to become a flight attendant.
As of March, Coble was set on getting into her dream school, which she raved about to her friends almost every day: Pennsylvania State, due to her love of Pennsylvania.
“It [has] a lot of history; I loved the city and lively atmosphere,” Coble said.
Thus, she applied for a bachelor’s in English at the college to pursue a career in book publishing.
However, when she finally got her acceptance letter, her excitement dissipated. Did she even want to go to college or was she just following the herd?
“I always felt pressured by my parents and everyone that I had to go to college,” Coble said.
After coming to the realization that college wasn’t for her, she looked into other career options. Remembering her interaction with the flight attendant and her love of traveling, she decided to become one herself.
Mesa Airlines is now her top choice of employment after graduating. After she applies, Mesa will fly her out to Arizona to complete a three week training program to be taught hospitality, customer service, and how to handle emergency situations.
When she’s officially employed there, she will have to move and be stationed in either Washington, D.C., or Houston, Texas. Despite how far she’d have to move, Coble has expressed her excitement at the prospect.
“I just enjoy being away from home and seeing new things,” said Coble.
