Cameron Ice is a versatile guitarist with a passion for music and a vision for the future. With his involvement in ROTC and a keen interest in art, almost everyone knows him or knows of him, but many do not know that he plays over ten different variations of guitar. He is a talented musician and has a powerful discernment of music and how it works.
“I play just about anything that has strings on it,” said Ice.
One of Cameron’s biggest motivations has been his family, who mostly all have a background in music. However, his biggest inspiration when it comes to being a musician is his “Papi.”
“Whenever I was younger, I always used to mess with [my Papi’s] guitar. I mean, I’d just be like strumming and making nonsense, but he was definitely what got me started,” said Ice.
Ice has an interest in fixing up old guitars, some of which can’t even be played anymore.
“Why get a new one when you can just use what you got? Like, Frankenstein something together and make an instrument that will last a while,” said Ice.
With so much experience and love for music, Ice has worked hard to get where he is today. Although he is not going to college for this profession, it is still an aspiration of his to continue making music for his entire life.
“I’d love for that, to be like being in a rock band and touring all around. That’s like, the dream,” said Ice.
Ice draws inspiration from the music around. He uses the techniques from the songs that he hears and enjoys trying them out whenever he can.
“There’s going to be a stage where it’s ugly and where you don’t like it. You look at it and you’re like, oh, what is that? But just to keep going through it, keep fighting through it. Work on it, tinker with it, change.”
As a composer, band member, and bluegrass performer, Ice has certainly made his way around the Bristol music circle.
He hopes that people will be able to “connect to [the music that he writes] on a deeper level. And just be able to use that as a way to be able to express themselves,” said Ice.
