Logan Dixon-Mcnew

Logan Dixon-Mcnew is someone whose life is filled with music, and his time at THS has been abundant with artistic involvement. Through music, he has found community, fulfilling experiences, friendships, and meaning.

“I feel like it’s a calling,” siad Dixon-Mcnew. “I feel [like] ever since I was little, that’s just been what I’ve wanted to do.”

His earliest memories of his musical career begin in middle school when he first started playing bass. After a bit of experience, his uncle then introduced him to playing music in church.

“I’ve always been inspired by all different types of music,” said Dixon-Mcnew.

He is also a member of Slim Pickins, a bluegrass band composed of Tennessee High students, in which he sings and plays acoustic guitar. Alongside this, he is a member of the Mighty Viking Band, in which he plays the mellophone and French horn.

He also writes, plays, and records music himself, which has helped him in many ways, especially mentally and socially. He calls his usual genre “Outsider Music.”

Following graduation, he plans to attend ETSU, earn at least a master’s degree in business marketing, and minor in music. Imagining himself in 10 years, he can see himself out of college and “just happy.”

“I just associate it with my well-being so much, I have to do it,” said Dixon-Mcnew.
