ASL Club is “one word: fun,” said faculty sponsor, Tim Davis, of the group that practices American Sign Language.
Meeting every 1st and 3rd Tuesday in Davis’s room, ASL club is an “entertaining space for students to learn together,” said President Makenzie Smith.
A mixture of practicing previously learned signs, studying new signs, and playing corresponding games, the club is an engaging way to expand one’s ability to connect with the deaf community. All students are encouraged to join!
Besides supporting his students, this club is important to Mr. Davis for another reason.
“I have extreme hearing loss in my right ear, [so] it’s a skill I hope to learn,” said Mr. Davis. “When you become dependent on one ear, things get real.”
“Even if it wasn’t practical, I would still do it,” said Mr. Davis. “If it was our own secret language, I would still do it.”
