The holidays are some of the happiest times of the year to many, but some are left without that joyful experience due to their socioeconomic status. However, thanks to several charities around Bristol, people can celebrate without worrying about whether their kids will have anything under the tree.
Operation Christmas Child was founded in 1993 by Samaritan’s Purse. Its goal is to deliver shoeboxes full of gifts to underprivileged children worldwide. Throughout its tenure, it has delivered 220 million boxes to 170 territories.
THS’ Interact Club collected items this year and donated to the charity to support its cause.
“[This] Charity is a way to showcase Christmas magic to kids who don’t normally have a Christmas,” said senior Interact secretary Abigail Waldorf.
The Johnia Berry Toy Drive was founded in 2004 in honor of an aspiring teacher who tragically lost her life. To honor her charitable spirit, the drive collects unwrapped toys from the community and distributes them to needy families.
“It’s a celebration of her life and her love for children,” says Johnia Berry’s mother Joan Berry.
These charities graciously and generously commit their time to disadvantaged children and families, unburdening worrisome parents.
