Former President Donald Trump has completed his political comeback mission, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris and scheduling his return to the White House for January 20.
President-elect Trump will make history as he becomes the second President in history to serve two non-consecutive terms, joining Grover Cleveland. That means that Trump will become both the 45th and 47th President, much like how Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th.
Furthermore, Trump will become the oldest President to ever be inaugurated, surpassing his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Vice President-elect JD Vance is set to become the third-youngest Vice President in American history. Some have speculated that Trump wishes for Vance to succeed him when he is term-limited in 2028.
“I think when President Trump gets elected in November, after four years, he’ll be looking to pass the baton to somebody,” said Republican National Convention delegate Louis Capozzi. “[…] I think JD Vance is that person.”
In terms of policy, Trump has pledged to enact stricter border and immigration policies, promote economic growth through deregulation and tax cuts, and end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
“We made history for a reason tonight. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said during his victory speech. “This will truly be the golden age of America.”
As for Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party, they are now left to rebuild from their defeat; for the second time in eight years, a woman has fallen short of the presidency. With Republicans also in control of the Senate and possibly the House, that task will prove exceedingly difficult as the Democrats seek a new leader and identity.
No matter the political fates of the candidates and their supporters, nothing can change the fact that the American people have handed Donald Trump the presidency until 2029.
“This is a magnificent victory for the American people. It will allow us to Make America Great Again,” the President-elect said.
