Using the bathroom at school doesn’t have to be boring. The Potty Press is a flyer posted in each stall of every bathroom in our school, showing off a variation of book recommendations, seasonal events, and new and upcoming books appearing in the library.
Librarian Britni Sauceman has been creating these posters since 2020, aiming to hang up a new one every month.
The flyers are an effort to encourage students to make more frequent visits to the library, as well as remind them that the library’s book collection is ever-expanding.
“The Potty Press is designed to promote the library and its offerings in a fun and friendly way,” said Sauceman.
January’s edition contained inspiring books about New Year’s resolutions, with spotlight options for athletes, science-lovers, and those confused about their future.
This issue also included an eye-catching “Series Spotlight” which shows off dystopian science fiction novel Red Rising by Pierce Brown, that tells the story of Darrow, who lives on a ranked society living on Mars, and is driven by the need for justice.
February’s edition touted images of the 2025 Young Adult Literature Awards, such as the William C. Morris Finalists Aisle Nine by Ian X. Cho; Shut Up, This is Serious, by Carolina Ixta; and The Wilderness of Girls by Madeline Claire Franklin; or Printz Honor book The Deep Dark, a graphic novel by Molly Ostertag.
The colorful poster also includes each of our librarian’s most recent recommendations, with Mrs. Sauceman’s being Uprooted by Naomi Novik and Ms. Silver’s being The God of the Woods by Liz Moore.
“We like to personalize the flyers by sharing some of our own favorite books, so that even students who do not frequent the library often feel like they ‘know’ their librarians.” said Sauceman.
Bathroom-goers should watch the stalls for the March edition, which Sauceman said should appear “sometime after spring break.”
