SkillsUSA is a CTE-based competition program in Chattanooga that competes during the winter for students in fields like criminal justice, cosmetology, culinary, and masonry & carpentry. Competing enables students to get realistic and hands-on experiences in the workforce.
“In these competitions, kids learn different skills and are exposed to many different trades,” said Criminal Justice teacher John Richardson.
SkillsUSA holds meetings during homeroom in designated CTE classrooms. Students interested should contact John Richardson, Stacy Singleton, Brad Goodman, or Chef Sauls—the teachers of their respective CTE fields.
“The heart and soul of it really is trying to prove my skill and myself,” said culinary state competitor Madison Manahan. “It really means a lot to me to be able to build my skill.”
