About

About Us

The Maroon & White is the official student newspaper for Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tennessee. We are the longest consecutively run student-led newspaper in the state of Tennessee, dating back to our first publication in 1915. Our motto, “for a better Tennessee High,” inspires our staff to represent a broad scope of interests and issues that will enrich and empower this community.  Maroon & White’s purpose is to inform, entertain, and provide an educational resource for our readers.

This newspaper is a public forum for student expression, with staff members (with assistance from their adviser) making content decisions. The editorials and columns in this paper reflect the view of their writers.

The Maroon & White is a member of the Tennessee High School Press Association (THSPA), and the Journalism Education Association (JEA).  Recently, the newspaper has received the following recognitions:

  • First place for Merit Newspaper (THSPA, 2024)
  • First place for editorial (THSPA, 2024)

Corrections policy

The Maroon and White aims to write engaging, accurate news stories.  We work to respond quickly to errors in all our published material. If a reader notices an error, we ask that they reach out to our advisor via email ([email protected]) informing us of the mistake.  We will make every effort to correct it promptly.  When we run a correction, it will appear in a textbox at the bottom of the article, explaining to our readers as clearly and efficiently as possible the mistake and the correct information.

Letters to the Editor

We will address Letters to the Editor by responding to them on either our website under the “Letter to the Editor” tab or in a column on our printed issues. We choose letters that reflect a range of viewpoints and add value to ongoing public discussions. Our goal in responding to letters is to correct misunderstandings or highlight the publication’s stance, ultimately fostering a constructive dialogue between the publication and its readers. The Editor and the Advisor reserve the right to edit submissions for grammar, length, or clarity but will always preserve the core message.
