As students reluctantly get back into a routine after the holiday break and several snow days, they have the opportunity to voice their opinions and plan school-wide events with the help of student council.
The club’s co-advisor, Lucas Gentry is enthusiastic about his role and the upcoming events planned through student council. This being his first year, he’s enjoyed the experience of meeting students, planning events like the bonfire and the fall homecoming parade, and meeting students’ families.
“It’s a great way to kinda meet students that I wouldn’t normally have in class and also, you know, to meet some of their parents and families too in a really positive situation,” said Gentry.
Students interested in being involved in student council are encouraged to reach out and know they are welcome to share their ideas.
“I think they need to have a positive outlook,” said Gentry. “They need to be able to and want to participate.”
Senior Ariel Harman finds that being in student council gives students a voice they otherwise wouldn’t have. Harman enjoys that student council feels more like students and teachers are on the same team and less like they’re two different teams competing against each other.
“It just, I think, gives me and other students a sense of pride to know that we helped do this,” said Harman.
