Art Club members recognize the underrated talent among their peers. Here, passion and creativity flourish unrestrictedly.
To sponsor Anthony Graham, Art Club is “a chance for creative minds to get together and to bounce ideas and thoughts off someone who’s similar to you.”
The club is a judgment-free zone where artists can expend their energy into something interesting and unique to them. Having peers who are artistically inclined gives members pointers and tips to better their styles, allowing students to adopt a deeper understanding of art.
“The amount of work every member puts into their art or project proves how passionate our club can truly be,” said president Ricardo Cortez.
This has proved to be true. Cortez won third place in the category “Ink/Markers” at the Artex competition last spring, largely in part to the time he was able to dedicate to his craft and the support brought through the club.
Several former members also placed highly in the competition, such as Caden Spiva, who placed best in show.
There’s no doubt crafty students are drawn to the idea of a creative space to utilize their talent in a unique way. The art basement is adorned with painted murals on the walls, handed down couches, worn-in easels, and scattered cds and vinyls—the perfect environment for inspiration.
“I love the art basement because you can see how creative all the art students are and you get a sense of community when you are down there,” said sophomore Harper Slaughter.
