Rachel’s Challenge focuses on improving students’ moods and overall mental health through school and community involvement. This mission embodies the core message of The Rachel’s Challenge operation, which was created in 1999 by the parents of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School massacre.
The club’s many projects and movements center around consideration and helpfulness. This year, members have helped with the Civinettes’ Trunk or Treat, passed out folders to students who needed them, and conducted a “Post-It Drive.”
“I believe even a small kind act can make a difference in someone’s life,” said junior co-president Raige Geibe.
Rachel’s Challenge meets every Thursday. Candance Sutherland is the sponsor, but she will soon pass the torch to a new sponsor: science teacher Hailey Holyfield.
“I’m excited to take over Rachel’s Challenge [and] to see what activities the students come up with next year,” said Holyfield.
This switch in leadership hopes to continue the club’s legacy of compassion and goodwill. Rachel Scott always believed she would change the world someday, and with over 1,200 schools participating in the kindness campaign named after her, she has.
“It’s a great group to be with because it was created for a good reason,” said sophomore co-president Evan Jones.
